When Investigative Reporters Walk In, Protect Children at all cost!

Young children should be respected at all costs!  I have often battled with the notion of young children being exploited in early childhood education environments when investigative news reporters visits an ECE program under the pretense that they are touring the program for enrollment.  There needs to be a high level of integrity when reporting news about ECE communities.  For instance, many years ago, the ECE community in North Carolina implemented best practice laws that affected the way that caregivers care for infants.  I remember being called by local news reporters that were making an attempt to be open and honest about the new law and the difficulties we had (if there were some) implementing them.  We were open to giving them a tour of the facility, and even interviewing our teachers.  I believe that their method was open and honest, and we were as well.  When entering ECE programs, young children (even when the faces are blurred), deserve to inhabit a program that loves and respects them enough to be treated in a manner that honors their presence.  I urge reporters to be honest with providers, and they will receive honesty in return.
