Rating System in Iowa, Misunderstood?
In response to the call for higher quality care in ECE, many states have implemented quality rating systems. Only a few states have updated their state laws to reflect higher quality care. In most states that have a quality rating system, ECE environments have the option of either participating or not. In some states, not participation is a factor likely to jeopardize the financial success of the company. In others, if many programs are participating, companies must not only ensure the follow-thru on the rating system, but all of the other features that would allow for their company to stand out, helping them gain financially. Child care providers in Iowa choose not to participate in the rating system for many reasons but seem to stand unified in their non-participation. I have attached an article about the quality system in Iowa.
