In the past few years, rearing bilingual children has been seen as very positive and quite popular.  What has been lost in the learning process is the child's ability to 'sponge' the information.  It is important for families to know that when children are learning multiple languages at once, language development may be halted until nearly 20 months old.  And, children are not sponges.
