When children find it difficult to fall asleep at bedtime, many times, they are asserting their control over the only part of their day that they are able to make their very own sound decisions. Although I was not given options at bedtime, I went through a phase where only my grandmother seemed to understand my desire for a piece of fruit, whatever she was having for her bedtime snack, or an extra sip of water. Because of that, I always knew if she said, 'bedtime,' she had her reasons (most of the time when the adults were talking 'adult stuff').
